1982 -- AT HOME ON A GOLF COURSE

Mature, who appeared in 72 films before retiring several years ago, now has one passion. That's golf, golf and more golf.

"I play every day," he told the People Page. "I hit the links by noon, after I've checked how my businesses are doing. I'm doing okay. I have quite a few real estate holdings, including an Oriental antique shop and a string of TV appliance stores under my name. You know, it's been 25 years since I set that up with a friend of mine from the service. When we started the TV stores, there wasn't an aerial out here. Now, you can't see the forest for the trees.

Mature lives with his wife, Lorey, and their daughter, Victoria, whom he treasures.

Mature said his daughter plays golf with him "every once in a while, but I don't want her to get too good. The way I play, that would be embarassing."

Mature said he's fully retired now, but "if a good part came along, sure I'd consider it." His last film was a cameo appearance in Sophia Loren's flick "Firepower," made here in 1978. His first movie was "The Housekeeper's Daughter" in 1939, and he's fondly remembered for "My Darling Clementine", "Kiss of Death", "Samson and Delilah", and the first Cinemascope movie, "The Robe".

"My next really big project is playing in Doug Sanders' golf tournament in Houston on the 8th, 9th, and 10th," said Mature. "I'm really looking forward to that. The hosts include Bob Hope, Willie Nelson, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford. That's some lineup. Doug is pitting 33 legendary golfers against 33 legendary entertainers.

"How's my game?" Mature a live wire, deadpanned: "Just say it's legendary."
