VICTOR MATURE (DEMETRIUS)

Victor Mature has been a screen star of the first rank ever since he went west after his initial triumph opposite Gertrude Lawrence in the Broadway hit, "Lady in the Dark." His superior work in "Kiss of Death," "Samson and Delilah" and with Jean Simmons in "Androcles and the Lion" had been duly noted. But all this was on the eve of the greatness of his talent, which only now emerges in its full power as Demetrius in "The Robe." It is this characterization which has inspired Twentieth Century-Fox to star him, as Demetrius, in another CinemaScope epic, "The Gladiators," currently in production.
